Lauren Janetos is the Knight Center for International Media’s Projects Manager. She joined the School of Communication staff in 2007 and works closely with Sanjeev Chatterjee, Associate Professor, Vice Dean and Executive Director of the Knight Center. She began her University of Miami experience in 2006 within the Division of University Advancement.
Lauren holds a Master of Arts in History from the University of New Orleans and was the only woman to graduate with a master’s in Spanish Borderlands history, an emerging field that continues to be one her primary interests. Lauren also earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism at Indiana University Bloomington where she studied photojournalism, graphic design and print publication. At IU she contributed to the digital version of the Indiana Daily Student, an award-winning campus newspaper. Combining her life-long passion for the environment, the arts, media, history and travel, Lauren’s research interests include environmental journalism and studies focusing on past and present human interaction with the environment, and the study of indigenous cultures mainly in Mexico, Latin America, and the American South and Southwest.
Prior to relocating to Miami from New Orleans, Lauren was the print media designer for the public relations firm working with former Mayor Marc Morial and current Mayor C. Ray Nagin. Her designs for campaigns such as the New Orleans Workforce Partnership were highly visible as billboard and transit advertisements. Her banners, books and brochures designed for city tourism welcomed travelers at the New Orleans Louis Armstrong International Airport. Lauren’s professional background also includes her work in the Louisiana and Special Collections Department at the University of New Orleans where she was responsible for compiling the New Orleans Audubon Collection. She was also a contributor to Louisiana’s largest music monthly, Offbeat Magazine and has volunteered her time as a radio DJ. Lauren is a member of the Young Professionals of Red Cross (Miami & The Keys) and is originally from Rochester, New York.
