Tini Tran is a veteran foreign correspondent with The Associated Press. She has recently completed a year as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University. Prior to that, she served as the Vietnam bureau chief for The Associated Press, based in Hanoi from 1999-2006. Tini was the first Vietnamese-American allowed to join the permanent foreign press corps in post-war Vietnam and has traveled extensively throughout Asia and parts of the Middle East on assignment, reporting from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, among other countries. Her work has been recognized by the National Headliners Awards, the Associated Press Managing Editors, and the Asian American Journalists Association. Before joining The AP, Tini worked at several newspapers in the U.S., including the Los Angeles Times and the San Jose Mercury News. She graduated from the University of Texas in Austin with degrees in political science and journalism.
