Walyce Almeida started working as an associate editor for the Knight Center for International Media in the fall of 2007.  She covers stories, collects information, edits and translates text and multimedia content.

Almeida, the daughter of Brazilian immigrants who grew up in the diverse city of Miami, Fla, has acquired a passion for Latin American cultures and is fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.  These skills made her a natural candidate to work on a Knight Center project focusing on Brazil - Photojournalist Paula Sampaio’s web site, RoadsOfDreams.org.  That project was her first step toward becoming an integral part of the Knight Center staff.  Since then, Almeida has contributed to various other international projects at the Center.

In the spring 2008, Almeida graduated from the University of Miami with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism and International Studies.  Starting in August, she will be attending the School of Communication’s journalism graduate program to improve her online multimedia storytelling skills.  Almeida will also be managing the new 1H2O web site.

Almeida is completing a one-year internship at the Miami Herald newspaper and is getting involved with the Brazil-US Cultural Center.
