The Knight Center for International Media’s Advisory Board met this week at the University of Miami School of Communication to evaluate and discuss current and new projects.
Rukmini Banerji, Ruth Behar, Luis Ramiro Beltran and Tom Kennedy traveled from all over the world to attend. Board members participated by phone from Beijing and Chicago, respectively. The remaining members were unable to attend this year.
This was the second annual board meeting held by the Knight Center where the members were invited to Miami to give their input and insight regarding the Center’s progress and upcoming projects.
“We are privileged to have very active board members, who have been very generous with their time and expertise over the past two years,” said Sanjeev Chatterjee, Knight Center’s executive director.
Topics discussed included a power point demonstration on the Center’s current operations and the two anchor projects – the Water Project and World Cities, as well as presentations by Rich Beckman, Knight Chair in Visual Journalism, and other School of Communication professors, including Leo Ferreira and Jyotika Ramaprasad, who spoke about their current Knight Center-related research and media projects.
The board members also got a chance to meet with igKnite, a volunteer student group that carries on projects related to the Knight Center’s mission and goals
The meeting concluded with a session where the board members independently discussed and gave input into the Center’s current projects and direction. This last aspect was crucial to the meeting because it gave them a chance to evaluate what the Center has done and the direction it is heading.
