The Knight Center for International Media participated significantly in this year’s Global Business Forum at the University of Miami through a screening of “One Water” and a panel about social entrepreneurship and water.

“Our commitment is to use the motion picture “One Water” as a tool to generate further discussion and mediamaking about the global water crisis,” said Sanjeev Chatterjee, executive director of the Knight Center.

Panelists included J. Carl Ganter, CEO of Circle of Blue, and John Oldfield, executive vice president of Water Advocates, a non-profit lobbying group. They joined School of Communication Knight Chair in Visual Journalism Rich Beckman and Chatterjee for a discussion that focused on raising awareness of the world water crisis. SoC Dean Sam L Grogg moderated the panel.

Topics included the importance of social marketing, fostering better relationships between corporations and water within the communities, and the use of multimedia to send messages about water.

“Multimedia provides the potential to do better journalism,” said Professor Rich Beckman during the panel. “What we are teaching now is how to use the right tool to tell the right story.”

The Global Business Forum, hosted by the University's School of Business Administration, brought together some of the most influential leaders in international business who took part of two days of forward-thinking discussion on the challenges and opportunities presented by the increasingly connected world.
