They will conduct research on the ground to create a pilot campaign that will address issues around malnutrition, diabetes, and particularly obesity in the local township community.
The goal is to create accessible and sustainable community-based interventions to counter rising obesity rates and other related diseases.

Guatemala
The purpose of this project is two-fold: first, to assess the current status and capacity of HIV/AIDS intervention activities at the community level and to identify partner organizations for the development of a sustainable HIV/AIDS prevention communication campaign in Santiago.
Second, to obtain qualitative data exposing underlying knowledge, attitudes, and opinions about HIV/AIDS among young adults in the Santiago Atitlan village.

Beyond Assignment

Their three journeys dramatize the fervent curiosity and determination needed to perform difficult and often dangerous jobs as visual storytellers.
BEYOND ASSIGNMENT examines the artistic and ethical responsibilities inherent in capturing vital subject matter and the subsequent emotional cost to journalists and their subjects.

On Cities
The On Cities project is focused on creating a model for global journalism by enabling journalists to report on global issues through local stories. In its first phase, the project is creating a network of partnerships with schools of journalism around the world.
The Center provides multimedia training for journalism teachers who in turn return to their classrooms to create content about global issues in their own city.

Climate Trap
In Bangladesh's capital, Dhaka, "climate change refugees" are moving from the countryside and into squalid slums due to environmental degradation. Like millions of others, Alam Mia has been forced to make the teeming capital of Dhaka his home.
We follow his journey as he leaves his homestead in search of a livelihood in the city. Dhaka feels more like a foreign country than home. For the family, it is a struggle for survival. Alam Mia is trapped. His move to the city is not a beginning full of possibilities.

Researcher Spotlight
 Dr. Wan-Hsiu Sunny Tsai (left), whose research focus embraces International Advertising, Cross-Cultural Consumer Behavior, Popular Culture Studies, Critical Media Studies, and Gender and Sexuality Studies, joined the faculty of the Advertising program in the fall of 2007 as an Assistant Professor. Qinghua (Candy) Yang (right) is a first year Ph.D. student at University of Miami, School of Communication. Her research interests mainly lie in health communication,computer-mediated communication, and communication technology especially from the multicultural perspective.
